Tutor Collaboration Day 2018

The Writing and Communications Corner at Christian Brothers University | Memphis, TN

Saturday, October 27, 2018 – 9:00-3:00

Tutor Collaboration Day 2018 will be held on Saturday, October 27, from 9:00-3:00, generously hosted by the Writing and Communications Corner at Christian Brothers University.

During this annual event, sponsored by the Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA), writing center tutors, staff, and administrators are invited to join with their peers to share knowledge and join in collaborative discussions about the theory, practical applications, challenges, and opportunities of tutoring students at all levels (K-12, undergraduate, and graduate) in writing.

We are excited for the event to take place in West Tennessee for the first time. In addition to tutor-led breakout discussions and a poster session, TuColla 2018 will feature an opportunity for participants to talk with alum of the Writing and Communications Corner. Our hosts have also generously assembled a list of restaurants and "happenings" in Memphis on Friday, the 26th, to share with any participants who will plan to spend the night.

Registration

Deadline to register: Monday, October 15 Thank you for taking a moment to register using this GoogleForm, which helps us know how many participants to plan for (especially in terms of our lunch order).

Call for Topics and Facilitators

Deadline for proposals: Monday, October 8, 2018 Submit proposals through this GoogleForm.

We invite two forms of participation (either individually or part of a group):

1) FACILITATING BREAKOUT DISCUSSION SESSIONS: We invite suggestions for 45-minute, discussion-oriented break-out sessions on topics relating to writing centers that you, as a tutor, are willing to help moderate. (Two or more individuals may co-facilitate a session.)

The expectation for Tutor Collaboration Day is that tutor facilitators will lead an informed discussion, not read a full paper or presentation. (Of course, these discussions have formed the basis of eventual formal presentations at the annual SWCA conference in the past.)

2) POSTER PRESENTATIONS: Rather than facilitate a discussion, you may also choose to take part in this year's poster session instead. Presenters will stand with their posters

and talk one-on-one or in small groups with those who move through the poster session. (Two or more individuals may co-present. Guidance on creating a poster presentation can be provided upon request.)

Theme: The Ongoing Conversation

This year's Tutor Collaboration Day theme is "The Ongoing Conversation," mirroring the theme of the 2019 SWCA Conference. We encourage you to use the SWCA 2019 Call for Papers as one source of inspiration for proposals.

For additional inspiration, we recommend you peruse Tutor Collaboration Day programs from past years: TuColla 2017 and TuColla 2016.

Questions? Inquiries can be directed to our event host, Clayann Panetta (cpanetta@cbu.edu), Director of the Writing and Communications Corner at Christian Brothers University, or to John Bradley (john.bradley@vanderbilt.edu), TN State Representative on the SWCA Board.
