SWCA is pleased to offer scholarships for professional work and travel support to our in-person conferences. In the spirit of developing future WC leaders in our region, we strongly encourage new scholars and first-time attendees to apply in 2022 for these student and professional supports for our next in-person conference in 2023.
The Tom Waldrep scholarship (2 recipients/$400 each) is open to any and all undergraduate and graduate students working in writing centers.
The Gary Olson scholarship (2 recipients/$400 each) is available for any and all professionals working in writing centers.
Submission Guidelines and Eligibility
Proposals for scholarships to the 2023 conference are due by midnight, November 15, 2022.
Both awards are tied to conference acceptance. Applicants need to be student, professional or institutional SWCA members before the first day of the annual SWCA conference. Awards are named in honor of our organizational founders. Anonymized proposals will be read and ranked by SWCA committee members, and scholarship winners will be announced in late November.
To highlight the good work of SWCA, the conference has also reserved two featured program sessions so that Olson and Waldrep winners can gain supportive feedback on their presentations. Award winners will also be noted in conference materials.
Please see our scholarship application form to apply. For further information about these awards, please contact the chair of the Scholarship Committee at SWCAScholarships@gmail.com. For information about the SWCA conference, see the Conference page.
