Awards

The SWCA sponsors annual awards that recognize excellence at both the tutor and supervisor levels. Awards are presented at our annual conference. See below for details about awards and the nomination process.

 SWCA Tutor Awards recognize leadership, commitment, and overall excellence of individuals working in an SWCA writing center. Individuals can be nominated in one of three categories: 
  • Undergraduate Tutor
  • Graduate Tutor
  • Professional Tutor
    The SWCA Achievement Award recognizes the outstanding, sustained body of work of a writing center director or supervisor to a particular writing center, the SWCA, or the writing center community at large.

Information about Nominations

  • UPDATED DEADLINE: Nominations and self-nominations are welcome for all awards categories are now due by 6pm ET on Friday, September 30th

  • For a nominee to be eligible for an award, the nominee, their center’s director, or their institution must be an SWCA member by the time of nomination. Nominees should be from schools within the SWCA region. Award winners are encouraged, although not required, to attend the SWCA conference.

Submitting Nominations for Tutor Awards

To submit a nomination for the SWCA Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professional Tutor Awards, click on the award name (below) and complete the submission form.

Submitting Nominations for the SWCA Achievement Award

To submit a nomination for the SWCA Achievement Award, collect and send the following materials in a single PDF to awardscommitteeswca@gmail.com with “SWCA Achievement Award Nomination” as the subject. Nominations are due by 6pm ET on Friday, September 30nd. Self-nominations are welcome.
  1. A cover page with the nominee’s name, institutional affiliation, title, and email address, and the name and email address of the person nominating them (if not a self-nomination)

  2. An explanation for why this person should receive this award (no more than two pages

  3. A statement (no more than two pages) of the nominee’s writing center philosophy

  4. The nominee’s CV

  5. A statement of support from a peer in the writing center field
